Collegeville Borough will be presenting their completed Main Street Master Plan for the Council and residents to review and discuss. Slides for the final plan are available on the Borough’s website (pdf).
The draft plan emphasizes the importance of preserving the character of the historic architecture along Main Street, while proposing adaptive reuse of existing buildings. The Borough hopes to welcome more restaurants and retail on the first floors of buildings and with apartments or offices on the upper floors. The proposed plan also recommends a more attractive streetscape, with green verges, wider sidewalks with street trees, a connection to the Rt. 29 Perkiomen Trail through Bums Hallow behind E. Fifth and Clamer Aves., more parking, and the creation of a town square and events area.
Survey Development and Presentation
The survey was led by Derck & Edson, the Borough’s planning consultant, with input from the Montgomery County Planning Commission, the Main Street Committee, and the Borough Council. Additionally, Ursinus College acted as the borough’s partner on the project. The funding for Derck & Edson’s work on Collegeville’s Main Street plan is being paid for through a $74,000 PA DCED Local Share Account grant.
